Bill Drayton’s mother arrived at the United States from country Australia while his father was an American who later became an explorer. Both parents had high values, public service, philanthropy and strong values running through their history of families. The family had been including several of the earliest anti-slavery destruction and women’s leaders in the U.S Drayton was born in 1943 in New York City.
Drayton went to high school at Phillips Academy, where he developed the Asia Society that soon became school’s one of the most popular student society. He attended Harvard and completed his Bachelors, receiving a degree in Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He established the Ashoka Table, a platform where students can learn how things really worked and how can they develop more by bringing in important government, union, and some of the church leaders for dinners. Bill Drayton after receiving his Bachelor degree in Arts later entered Balliol College, Oxford, where he received a Master degree in Arts in 1967. He did not stop here and went to Yale Law School where he collected his Juris Doctor in 1970. Bill Drayton formed and founded Yale Legislative Service while studying at Yale Law School, which involved a third of the law school’s student body.
Drayton worked as a manager and management consultant while working for McKinsey and Company as a consultant for more than 10 years. He was the assistant administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, launching his emissions trading during the administration of President Jimmy Carter (1977–1981). Drayton has also served as a visiting Professor at Harvard University and Stanford University.
